A broken life, an uncertain future, an encounter with the Bible, a new hope.
A Personal God
The Forum of Bible Agencies – International & the Forum of Bible Agencies – Africa, seeking to bring together Bible agencies, the African church & other ministries dealing with HIV/AIDS, recently hosted a consultation to explore Bible Engagement in the Context of HIV/AIDS. Held in Nairobi, Kenya September 30 – October 4, 2007 the gathering allowed ministry leaders, theologians and HIV/AIDS practitioners to join together in discussion & exploration, seeking to discover a better understanding as to how Bible engagement can impact the HIV/AIDS situation in Africa. Throughout the course of the consultation testimonies, poems & music were interwoven with presentations by theologians, panel discussions and Q&A sessions to challenge participants’ thinking. Given the complexity & enormity of the situation the material was not always comfortable. Attendees functioned in communities throughout the week that allowed them to grapple with these issues together. These pages include the statement released by the consultation along with a commitment to action by the attendees. You will also find resources provided to attendees, along with some of the poems & music presented. The Forum has not completed its discussion on this topic. It is our hope that the materials here will lead to continued dialogue among member agencies & other interested parties, as well as continued learning about the impact of Scripture on affected by HIV/AIDS.
